About Me
Hey! I'm Claire Waters, a senior manager of Docs at GitHub by day and a mom of two 24/7. Ever since having kids, I've appreciated hearing how other working parents do *flaps hands around* all this and wanted a space to share my experiences of being a working work-from-home parent. Despite the chaos of our two-working-parent, two-toddler household, we find ways to explore the world - both locally and globally - and manage our life. Somewhat.
My Story
I firmly believe that being a manager makes me a better parent, and vice versa. Despite the EQ crossover, I never really found ways to apply my work life to my home life, other than by infrequently reviewing resumes and cover letters for family members. That is, until my husband was traveling for work, I didn't want to eat out again, and I didn't really feel like going to the grocery. Enter: Claude.
Up to that point, I had only really ever used AI to help generate the occasional code sample or doc outline. Inspired by a session I went to at AfroTech (and admittedly frustrated at my lack of dinner plans for the week), I asked Claude to build me a meal plan with the ingredients I had in my pantry and fridge. And wouldn't you know, it gave me a week's worth of ideas right back. For now, I'll use this blog to share my work/life problems that I'm solving with AI, muse about where the industry and its impact are headed, and probably ramble. It's imperfect, but so am I. Excited to experiment!
